The Red Fern is a 100% vegan restaurant located in Rochester, New York. They serve a variety of sandwiches, salads and entrees. In my opinion the best part about The Red Fern is the desserts!
I was heading to Rochester for a show and decided to make a stop at The Red Fern. I had eaten here back in 2016 and didn’t feel like the food was that great, but I wanted to give it another chance. I ordered the mac and cheese nachos and the buffalo bleu sandwich. The nachos were topped with cashew mac and cheese, cheddar, green olive salsa verde and roasted tomatoes. I thought the nachos were really good. They are something that I would order again.
The buffalo bleu sandwich was spicy buffalo tempeh, pickled carrot and cabbage, cucumber and blue cheese dressing on focaccia bread. I thought the sandwich was just okay. It came with sesame sticks. You can upgrade your side to macaroni salad or sweet potato salad for an additional $2.75. That just didn’t seem worth it to me. I remembered having the macaroni salad as a side when I came here a couple years ago and it wasn’t anything special and an extra almost $3 for a scoop of noodles…why bother?
Once again I wasn’t too impressed with the food here. I see so many great reviews for this place online and I was hoping that maybe something happened in the past three years since I’ve been here and that I should try it again to see what everyone was raving about. I still don’t get the hype.
The one thing I must say is although I wouldn’t care to stop back here for food, if I am out in the Rochester area I would definitely stop back here to grab something from the dessert case. The desserts are totally on point! I ordered a vanilla sugar cookie with sprinkles and a chocolate peanut butter rice crispy treat, both were absolutely amazing. I felt like it was one of the best vegan cookies I’ve ever had.
