Today marks 25 years since Stone Temple Pilot’s album “Purple” was released. This was the second album from Stone Temple Pilots and as I imagine, the pressure must have been on to come up with something that would live up to the standards set by their first album, Core. I think that Purple did live up to those standards and even rose the bar.
Listening to the album today and it really brings back good memories of when hit songs like “Big Empty”, “Vasoline” and “Interstate Love Song” took over the world of radio. These songs are still on decent rotation today.
It’s kind of crazy how when I hear these songs 1994 doesn’t feel all that long ago. This must be how adults felt when I was a kid and all of the 70’s music on the radio seemed like it was so old school. It was only as old to them as the album Purple is to me right now. Either way, this is a great album and it deserves a thorough listen every now and then, but especially today as it turns 25!
And as I can’t mention enough, STP is one of the best live acts out there right now. If you haven’t had the chance to see these guys live, then now’s your chance. They’ve been touring pretty consistently for the past few years playing dates all around the world.
