Last Friday I took a road trip to Cleveland to catch a show and since I had some extra time I decided to finally make the trip out to Akron, Ohio to eat at Ms. Julie’s Kitchen. As far as concerts in Cleveland go, it is an extra hour and a half drive to go to Ms. Julie’s Kitchen. Since my drive to Cleveland is about three hours total, adding that extra hour and a half drive is pretty far – especially considering I get up at 6am and work at least half a day and then drive out to Cleveland for a show and then drive home after. But with this road trip, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and do the extra drive. Ms. Julie’s Kitchen was definitely worth it.
I ordered what felt like half of the menu because that is just what you have to do when you go to a place that you’ve been wanting to try for so long and you also have no idea when you will have a chance to eat there again. The menu at Ms. Julie’s Kitchen changes frequently as it depends on what is in season and what ingredients they have to work with. The food is all locally sourced and some of it even comes from Julie’s own garden! This place is also 100% vegan which is always a plus when you can order anything and everything off of the menu.
The food at Ms. Julie’s Kitchen was well worth the extra drive. Everything was absolutely delicious and had that made from scratch homemade taste. I ordered the bbq kale wings which were battered and fried kale. They were crunchy and the homemade bbq sauce that came with it for dipping was the best bbq sauce I’ve ever had. This is a must get when you come here. I also ordered cauliflower bites which came with a homemade dill ranch dipping sauce, mac and cheese bites, asparagus quiche and sloppy mac, which is a plate of mac and cheese with lentil chili on it. I would recommend everything that I ordered. It was that good.
I’d really like to come back here to try other things on the menu and since the menu does change frequently that is even more of a reason to come back.
I almost forgot, I also got a couple of doughnuts to go. They were pretty good, not my favorite doughnuts, they tasted more like cake than they did doughnuts.
