Champs Diner located in Brooklyn New York is quite possibly one of the best vegans spots I have yet to experience. They serve all sorts of vegan comfort food – mac and cheese, mozzarella sticks, buffalo wings, burgers, pancakes, food bowls, milkshakes, breakfast foods – everything you can think of and the food tastes so amazing, it well exceeded my expectations. If every restaurant served food like this then people would be going vegan without even noticing a difference.
One warning about Champs Diner is that you may need to wait a while to be served. They do not take reservations – the diner even has instructions on their website about this:
“No reservations or call aheads. Walk-ins only. We never seat incomplete parties, even if tables are available. For live wait estimates and to check your place on the list, look us up with Nowait. In the event that you arrive and there is a waiting list, our host will be able to take your phone number and notify you via text message when your table is ready. There is no waiting area available inside the restaurant. We ask that all guests who are waiting for tables or carryout orders to do so outside year round. We ask this to adhere to fire codes and provide a clear, accessible path, as well as a courtesy to our staff and other guests”.
I was lucky enough to get there right before the crowds hit (around 11am). By the time I left, however, there were many people waiting outside to get in. The food is worth the wait though. There is a reason it gets so crowded, the food is just that good. Do not miss this place if you are in the Brooklyn area!
